Design Technology

Design and Technology is taught throughout the year, across all year groups through a creative and practical approach. Pupils are taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in an interactive process of designing and making products. All year groups should be provided with opportunities to take creative risks and produce innovative ideas and prototypes which the children are to evaluate at the end of each topic. Design and Technology requires children to have an excellent attitude to learning, with the ability to work both independently and constructively and productively with others, using time efficiently.

A thorough knowledge of which tools, equipment and materials to use is required to make their products. Cross-curricular links are often made with mathematical and scientific knowledge applied to help create a generation of responsible designers, makers, and problem solvers, working ethically, using finite materials carefully and safely.

A key aspect of Design and Technology is having a secure, breadth of knowledge of a healthy balanced diet, learning how to cook safely and hygienically across all year groups. We ask that you support us in this mission by promoting healthy lunches and snacks.
